Vintage - Japanese Gold Threads
I recently bought some hanks of vintage gold threads from Japan. I ordered online and did not really know what to expect, but when I opened the package I discovered the most wonderful gold threads... it is difficult to convey in a photograph, but the lustre is amazing, not too shiny, and the shades are gorgeous.
The thread is very fine and I believe it was produced for weaving and embroidery of obi. The seller told me that is was made in Nishijin, which is the traditional textile district of Kyoto (now there's a place I'd love to visit one day...), and the gold is wrapped around a fine silk thread. I will be using these threads for embroidery and I can't wait to try them out! I also ordered some other threads from the same place - 3 big hanks of beautiful tsumugi silk threads and a set of lacquered threads - I will be showing them off in separate posts soon.
